X Marks the Spot

Brief:
The theory is, if you place points of interest along the lines of a grid system, then your photo becomes more balanced and will enable the viewer to interact with it more naturally. Studies show when viewing images people's eyes usually go to one of the intersection points rather than the center of the shot.
The purpose of this project is recognition of basic geometric shapes and their use in composition within the picture space.

Circles:

I love the fact that you can look at these images and realise that they are every day objects, but they look more selected and intentional when displayed in this format.

Rectangles:

Triangles:

By the end of the day, the images I chose to photograph became uninspired, I stopped looking for interesting examples and just took whatever I could find. I was relieved to leave the Barbican that day, as the project had become tedious, but when I was outside I carried on looking for shapes, and noticed i was more determined to carry on when in a different environment.

Crosses:

Usually I would think of these as shapes, I would view them as objects which make up another object. For example, a street lamp, or a door handle. It is interesting having to look at them as a mixture of individual geometric shapes.
